Learn About Shiranee

I have always had a keen interest in both landscape and Interior design.  Growing up on a rural family property I was able to experience a great love of developing landscapes and identifying plantings, something I may have inherited from my father and late Grandmother.  I vividly remember the purple hydrangea that would flourish outside my gorgeous Grandmothers bedroom window, a shrub that responded well to her constant loving care.  Perhaps my grandmother’s name Flora, which means Flower in Latin, with Flora being the Roman Goddess of Spring and flowering plants had something to do with my love of gardens. Or perhaps it was my maternal Grandmother Daphne, named after a beautiful, scented flower that somehow inherently influenced me.  Well at least I like to think so.

I grew up with a younger brother and sister and we were all keen equestrians.  Horses became our lives from a very early age.  This love of horses was to carry on in all our lives with us pursuing careers in the horse industry, particularly Horse Racing.  I went on to marry a jockey who was to later become a horse trainer.  We established a successful Horse Training business which has now been operating over 30 years.

My husband and I share a daughter who is a successful artist and writer, having recently being shortlisted for a Quill award and recent winner of a Walkley prize for excellence in reporting on violence against women and children.

I successfully completed a diploma in Interior design with the Australian Institute of decorating in 2012 and have this past 10 years developed projects in both areas.  I believe my love for home styling and staging ultimately led me to progress to designing gardens based on people’s briefs and lifestyles.  My great interest in gardening is to develop a garden that allows spaces to shine individually rather than compete against other species and plantings throughout the year.  I have successfully developed gardens based on these principles and have found they have bought great joy to my clients.  I also love watching clients develop their own love for their garden and become involved in the whole process with eagerness and excitement.

For me to see a project come to life brings me great joy. I’m not a superwoman nor am I an expert on life and all that is thrown at us.  But I do know that when the world wearies, and society fails to satisfy there is always a garden. One of the most delightful things about a garden is the anticipation it provides.

I hope you enjoy the transformations you find on this website as much as I had creating them.
